A-League round up: Wellington stage comeback, Melbourne City survive late rally | OneFootball

Match day 6 in the A-League was another very exciting one for all football lovers all over the world. Drama on the pitch, goals galore and some very heated duels; that’s the A-League. In this round up we will have a look at the latest results.

Western United 0-2 Western Sydney

Two late goals handed Western Sydney all three points in their clash against Western United in A-League. United dominated much of the game, enjoying far more possession. Despite chances for both sides, neither team could open the scoring. With just nine minutes remaining, Sophie Harding finally found the opener to break the deadlock. The forward snatched the ball from Hillary Beall after the United keeper failed to clear the ball in time. Cushla Rue doubled the visitors’ lead in injury time as the No.15 found herself in acres of space, easily firing the ball beyond Beall.

Wellington 2-1 Perth Glory

In a narrow 2-1 win, Wellington took all three points from Perth Glory. Millie Farrow had opened the scoring in the 21st minute to give the visitors the early lead. The forward bundled the ball home after tripping over her feet in the penalty area. Two goals in thirteen minutes saw the hosts stage a second-half comeback. Hope Breslin bagged the equaliser with a simple tap in from ten yards out. Chloe Knott rounded the action off, heading the ball home after Mariana Speckmaier’s initial shot returned off the crossbar.

Melbourne Victory 2-1 Central Coast Mariners

Three second-half goals provided a nailbiting conclusion to Melbourne Victory’s clash with Central Coast Mariners. Kurea Okino bagged the opener, turning the ball home from a well-worked corner routine in the 59th minute. Just over ten minutes later, Faye Bryson found the equaliser to restore the deadlock. The defender slotted the ball home beyond Lydia Williams, with her goal appearing to have secured a point for her side. A late winner from McKenzie Weinert snatched all three points for the hosts as the No.11 fired the ball home through the congested penalty area.

Canberra United 3-4 Newcastle Jets

A seven-goal thriller offered fans a dramatic spectacle at McKellar Park. Three goals inside a quarter of an hour got the game off to a thrilling start. Michelle Heyman’s second-minute opener was quickly nullified as Sarina Bolden brought the tie level three minutes later. Emily van Egmond’s effort was enough to send the visitors in before the break. A further goal from Bolden alongside Lauren Bolden’s effort rounded off the scoring for the away side. A brace from Vesna Milivojevic reduced the deficit to a single goal as the hosts took all three points.

Sydney FC 2-3 Melbourne City

After a dominant first half, Melbourne City were given a late scare in their game against Sydney in A-League. City had bagged three first-half goals as they enjoyed a comfortable opening 45 minutes. Goals from Julia Grosso, Emina Ekic and Daniela Galic put the visitors up three goals at the half as Sydney struggled to find a foothold in the tie. The hosts staged a comeback in the second half as goals from Jordan Thompson and Charlotte Mclean reduced the deficit to a single goal. Despite the scare, Melbourne hung on to take all three points from the clash.

Brisbane Roar 1-1 Adelaide United

A one-all draw handed Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United a single point. Mariah Lee kicked the action off in the 13th minute with the No.7 carrying the ball beyond the onrushing Brisbane goalkeeper to find the back of the net from a tight angle. Mia Corbin found the equaliser for the hosts just seven minutes before the break. The forward smashed the ball beyond Annalee Grove to secure a point for her side.
